My clients find me to be warm and welcoming!   I am ready to listen to whatever is on your mind in a non-judgmental setting.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and received my Board Certification in Counseling from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) in 2006.  I am verified by Psychology Today.

As we move through time, our lives take unexpected twists and turns that we didn't see coming.  During those times, someone with an objective point of view can help you find direction.  I provide a place for you to share in a confidential setting what is in your heart and mind---or maybe you don't know how you feel yet and that's okay, too.  We can explore what you're going through together.

At other times, predictable changes occur.  We knew that someday we would be dealing with the declining health or the death of a loved one, or we knew our child would be going off to college and the changes that would bring.  You may be the college student who is feeling stress juggling academic demands and  working through the pros and cons of being away from home.  We are called upon to adjust to changing circumstances several times in our lives and it is during these times, that we need a sounding board and someone who will listen and bring us back to center.  You might be someone who has struggled for years with depression, anxiety, or mood disorders.  I can provide the support you need by giving you a fresh approach to your challenges.

My work with you is strengths-based counseling, helping you clarify  your goals and supporting you on your journey to where you want to be.  I draw from several schools of thought to personalize your plan to meet your needs. This includes techniques from  cognitive behavioral theory (CBT), brief solution-focused, mindfulness, expressive arts, and holistic therapy.   For those who are interested in doing so, I use music, art, and creative writing in our sessions.  I have extensive experience in working with children and their developmental emotional and social needs.  As we work together, I may use play therapy, sandplay, dance, movement, and bibliotherapy.  With my training through the Seleni Institute and Postpartum Support International, I look forward to working with you and/or your partner through all of the changes during your pregnancy, focusing on perinatal and postpartum mental health and well-being.

I work collaboratively with you in planning your individual goals and strategies.  My varied life experiences, as well as my comprehensive training, help me understand your feelings as you are navigating around, or through, life's obstacles.  Let me help you.  Everyone needs someone to listen to them.
